We were so lucky; they really put thought and love into these products without charging us an arm and a leg. Definitely gonna subscribe.

My cousins from New York came to live with us in the early 80s and they brought this. We were 5/6 years old. Incredible that they made this toy given the film was an 18.

Got this for Christmas in '66, could not wait for summer to test it out. Took it to a swim lake in northern New Jersey and watched it glide through the water underwater while I was underwater, then it stopped. The battery compartment had flooded out and then corroded really bad, and later GI Joe's body joints rusted too. Totally devastating toy loss.

This is a classic vintage toy. Back then, it was too controversial to sell to kids. Now, those kids are adults buying the vintage and newer lines of the Alien franchise toys. I wasn't quite 2 years old when Alien was released in 1979. I was like around 4 or 5 when I first watched it. I wasn't scared when I first watched it. I was fascinated more than anything, especially with the John Hurt chest burster scene. It's high up in my all-time favorite sci-fi/horror movies list.

That was cool, I’d never actually seen a clear pic of the Cy-Protector Cy-Buckle (the belt) before. Maybe the fact that it can’t be easily attached is the reason why it never shows up in photos.

I had the one with the rocket.

My mom (Santa Claus) got me this set for Christmas, 1970 when I was seven years old. Mine came with black boots, not silver, and a brown haired Man of Action like yours. I always wondered why he didn’t come with gloves. My capsule had the glow in the dark white interior. I played with this astronaut and capsule for hours upon hours. I still have my capsule and spacesuit 53 years later. Thanks for this trip down memory lane!

Great information, the guy over at Posterfix emerses his yellowed poster in a bath of some sort of bleaching agent and the transformation is quite astounding. It would be interesting if to see if the Vintage Star Wars collectors accept this process or not, probably not but i cant see an issue.

What about soaking the paper?

One of the things that I noticed about the common Luke Skywalker figures from the original is that his neck stump tends to be very fragile, and often breaks. As a kid, I remember the heads coming off on these figures quite often from multiple head turning. With the C3PO figures, I remember them breaking at the wrist, and sometimes at the top of the foot. R2D2s always broke at the leg joints. I notice that the blue on Artoo's dome is a bit of a green- blue on the figures from Taiwan. The Hong Kong versions, which were more commonplace, were cerulean blue. My father wouldn't allow me to have a Princess Leia when I was a kid. He was born in '31, and the values were much different, so he saw Leia as being strickly a girl's toy. I eventually traded for one, and he seemed okay with that, but he wasn't going to buy one for me. I was like your neighbor--I had the vinyl cape jawa as a kid, and nobody would trade with me. I also preferred the cloth goods robe (and still do!) I appreciated how these figures were representative of the movie characters, but didn't look exactly like them. This allowed me to use my imagination more, and I think that's really important as a kid to do that. It really helped me in regards to become more creative. Today I'm a professional comic book artist / illustrator, and I credit the toys from the '70s for helping me to develop a strong imagination. We had good stuff back then that allowed for more interaction. Hours of fun playing with SW figures, Six Million Dollar Man, Micronauts, and Marx dinosaurs! Great times!

This is great. Thank you for posting this. I work on restoring vintage radios. Any instruction books from the 1930s are always damaged. I will try this. Question what part does the isopropyl A play? Also, what volumewise, is the ratio of IPA to Peroxide.? Cheers

You should also look into leaf casting. Comic book restorers often use this method to reattach comic covers and pages that have split apart. I think you might find it of interest, Tim. It's not a solution for every situation, but you can also look at tear seals via methyl cellulose and tengujo fibers, which are something often used to restore comic book pages, documents, and book pages. Might help reinforce those paper folds. I remember seeing someone using methyl cellulose techniques to restore a vintage Forbidden Planet movie poster.
